mphis\, Tennessee -- James Armstrong at the Pocono Blues Festival in Blake
slee\, Pennsylvania -- Joe Bonamassa could play the blues before he could
drive a car. By age 8 he was opening for B. B. King. At 14\, he was invite
d to attend a Fender guitar event\; during that trip to the West Coast he
met Berry Oakley\, Jr. Bonamassa and Berry founded the group Bloodline wit
h Miles Davis's son Erin and Robby Krieger's son Waylon.\nThey released on
e album which produced two chart singles 'Stone Cold Hearted'\, and 'Dixi
e Peach.' A little while later he stepped out on his own and has been a to
uring and recording artist ever since. Beale Street Caravan caught up with
him at Minglewood Hall in Memphis\, Tennessee in support of his latest re
cording project\, The Ballad of John Henry. James Armstrong knows all abo
ut the blues. Following a critically acclaimed debut release on the HiTone
label\, a robber broke into his home and nearly stabbed the budding artis
t to death. It affected the speed of his guitar playing a little bit but h
is spirit remains unbowed. His soulful playing was evident at the 2009 Poc
ono Blues Festival. Robert Gordon / The Hi Record Story\n\nStart time: 12
