 2009-12-12\n\nNew Ballet Ensemble & School presents Nut Remix\, an origina
 l contemporary  urban Memphis story based upon the traditional Nutcracker 
 Ballet. Act I finds us at Beale Street celebrating the season with interna
 tional visitors dining the Beale Street cafe run by a hard working single 
 parent and his daughter\, Clara. The Hip hop battle replaces the usual mou
 se and soldier confrontation and ends peacefully as snow descends on a sur
 prised Memphis.  Nut ReMix  honors the cultures of the countries represent
 ed in the Ballet.  Flamenco and Chinese dance rooted in the real tradition
 s of these cultures is brought to the fore and New Ballet adds the dances 
 of West Guinea\, Africa into the mix. Audiences experience the classical b
 allet of the Sugar Plum juxtaposed with the raw energy of urban dance that
  has come to be associated with New Ballet. This production has been descr
 ibed as a 'joyous\, daring fusion of the old and the new'. Tchaikovsky's v
 enerable Nutcracker leaps into the 21st Century\, reconfigured with ballet
  hip-hop\, African dance and a score that has the well-known classical ele
 ment. New Ballet is committed to providing a distinctly multicultural expe
 rience for audience members\, which coincides with the mission of New Ball
