 ding Winslow Homer\, Eastman Johnson\, Sanford Robinson Gifford\, and John
  Frederick Kensett.  Their works reveal changing ideas and attitudes\, maj
 or shifts that Walt Whitman's poetry and prose anticipated and that the Ci
