This weekend proves to be an entertaining one with Murals being painted on Chelsea at N. Evergreen, Liberace taking over the Next Stage, Mr. Rickey calling an important meeting, and the Father of Modern Dance entertaining us at Buckman! Get out and Discover the Arts this weekend!

Artspace Groundbreaking In Downtown Memphis

The highly anticipated Artspace South Main Lofts in Downtown Memphis will break ground this Thursday. Nearly ten years in the making, this project will provide affordable housing for artists and creative professionals in the greater Memphis area. The Tennessee Arts Commission has partnered with ArtsMemphis to support the development of this cultural asset and we look forward to witnessing the value it will bring to the Memphis community.

Mr Rickey Calls A Meeting presented by Hattiloo Theatre

On a spring day in 1947, Branch Rickey, the powerful General Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers, summons heavy weight champion, Joe Louis, tap star Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson and actor Paul Robeson to his hotel room in Manhattan. Rickey wants their support when he taps Jackie Robinson to be the Major League's first black ball player. But a powerful struggle ensues when the eloquent Robeson raises questions about Rickey's motivations to integrate white baseball.

Liberace! presented by Theatre Memphis

Back by popular demand after a successful run as last summer's showcase, this moving and highly entertaining tribute to the performer famous for his charm, glitz, and glamour relives the highs (and lows) of Liberace’s prolific life and the real person behind the persona. Interwoven with a rollicking piano score spanning classical and popular music, this one-man production will have the audiences cheering the life of a unique American icon.

Jose Limon Dance Company presented by Buckman Arts Center
