Lauren Kennedy

Lauren Kennedy is Partnership Manager, Ballet Memphis. Lauren came to Ballet Memphis from the Dallas Art Fair in Dallas, Texas, where she served as program manager for the three-day annual event featuring more than 80 national and international galleries and art dealers. Prior to working at the Dallas Art Fair, she served as director of operations and programming for visual-art podcast "Art This Week" and as development coordinator for the Nasher Sculpture Center, both based in Dallas. She earned a bachelor of arts in art history from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn. where she was the Center for Outreach and Development in the Arts (CODA) Fellow from 2005-08. She is a native of Little Rock, Ark.

Having grown up in this area and spent time in Memphis as a kid, it can be easy to take for granted how impressive the Mississippi River is. I was reminded of this when one of my best friends from Texas came to visit and told me that crossing the Mississippi River as he was driving in was one of the coolest experiences he has had. The breadth of the river, the seemingly slow but constant movement of it, the knowledge that you aren’t likely to swim across it easily and watching it rise and fall… it really is incredible to behold.
